About Corgis

Corgis are a fun, sassy, energetic, sweet breed of dog. They have medium level energy, requiring approximately 30-90 minutes of exercise daily (depending on the individual dog). Corgis were originally bred to herd cattle; they are excellent farm, family, or companion dogs for people who live a reasonably active lifestyle.

Corgis LOVE food and treats. They are highly trainable, but have an independent streak, so they do best with positive reinforcement training – they will do anything if they LIKE to do it! Because they are very food motivated, combined with their body shape, it is important to watch your dog’s weight to ensure they maintain their joint and spinal health for their entire lifetime.

Corgis shed a lot, so be prepared to brush them and vacuum your home regularly! We affectionately refer to this as “Corgi glitter” – the cleanup is worth having such a loving companion.

Colours

Purebred Pembroke Welsh Corgis come in three accepted colours: red and white, sable, or tricolour. Purebred Pembrokes do not come in blue merle or other similar colours. Because we breed purebred dogs, we do not offer colours outside of the breed standard.

Tails

In 2016, The College of Veterinarians in BC voted to disallow tail docking for cosmetic purposes. While docking tails & removing dewclaws is still considered breed standard in some parts of the world, we do not dock any of our puppies’ tails, or remove dewclaws, unless there is a medical reason to do so. You will occasionally see dogs in our program who do not have tails; these are generally dogs we have imported from the US where it is considered an important part of the breed standard.
