Application & Placement Process

The first step in our process is to fill out an application form. This form may seem daunting, but there are no wrong answers and it is simply a way for us to start getting to know you, and what you are looking for in your puppy. We use this information to help us start planning if a corgi is the right fit for your family, and if so, what individual temperament qualities we want to look for to make the best possible match in personality.

After we review your written application, we schedule a video call with each family, to put a face to a name and get a better feel for your family, your living arrangements, and activity levels. This is a great chance to ask any questions, or clarify anything about our process that may be unclear.

Once your application is approved, I send a copy of our contract for you to review. The contract was drafted by a lawyer and is very full of legal jargon, so if there is anything about it you don’t understand or need clarification on, I am happy to help you interpret it.

If you decide to move forward at this stage, the contract is signed digitally by both parties (you, the Buyer, and myself, the Seller). Once this is signed, a $650 CAD reservation fee is required to officially be placed on the wait list. This can be sent via e-transfer, which will provide an email to both of us providing proof of transfer. Once I process the payment, I will send you a receipt/invoice showing your payment and the outstanding balance, which will be due at the time you pick your puppy up.

The Placement Process

At Zora’s Corgis, we emphasize the importance of placing puppies based on temperament first and foremost. I strongly believe in matching puppies with their families based on their personalities, energy level, herding instinct, etc. and spend a considerable amount of time getting to know my families and their household dynamics, so I can do my absolute best to consider how a puppy will fit into each placement. While I do my best to accommodate gender/colour preferences, I will always ask if a family is flexible on these preferences or not. It is OK for families to have these preferences, but must understand that if they are not flexible, they may have to wait longer for their perfect puppy to arrive into the world.

When puppies are born, I will send an email to those who are up next on my wait list (this is determined in combination of when a family put their deposit down, temperaments, and available genders/colours). At this stage, I re-confirm preferences with families and offer all the information you’ll need on when puppies will be of age to bring home, the process for pick up, etc.

When puppies are approximately 6-7 weeks old and their personalities are beginning to develop, I schedule in-person or individual video call appointments for families who have confirmed they will be welcoming one of the current pups home into their family. My role is to utilize my knowledge and experience with each litter to accurately showcase each puppy’s individual personality, energy level, and herding instinct, and guide each family to decide on their top three choices. While I cannot promise that each family will receive a puppy from their top three, I do my absolute best to accommodate within these choices. I find this is a good balance of placing by temperament, but also allowing families some autonomy in their choice, and allowing them to make the best decision possible for their own family.
